OVERVIEW | VOIDSEA | ??? | ??? ✧ OOC EXPECTATIONS ✧✦ This is a structured musebox centered around
monstrous transformation. There will be
strong horror themes including a focus on body horror and inevitable change, as well as characters being forced to make difficult choices and learn what they can live with in themselves and others. Harm to others is not avoidable by nature of how monsters tend to feed - whether through
direct cannibalism or more insidious metaphysical drains, there is always a cost. Other themes include the nature of self and identity, existence vs entropy, personal ethics and philosophy, self-reflection and growth.
✦ The intention in this space is to be a slower-paced, fun-focused environment that fosters creativity. We like to dig deep into characterization and motivation, do messy growth and corruption arcs, and so on. There will be many opportunities for character customization, storytelling and exploration of the world and characters within it.
✦ There will be a focus on collaboration and cohabitation to begin with rather than PVP - many players are very tired from years of a faction war hamster wheel, and thus characters will often be strongly encouraged to work together even with people they may not have originally chosen to. However, we love messy character conflict and drama too and would love for our players to work out whatever CR they're interested in!
✦ We do not currently have a
character limit or
activity requirements. That said, we encourage players to only bring as many as they feel they can handle actively - the space is more fun if everyone is able to keep it lively!
✦ For this same reason, one player playing
multiple characters from the same canon who would know each other and have reason to interact is currently
not allowed. We do not expect players to horse-blinder their characters and forbid any and all knowledge or interaction, but again, the intent is to encourage interaction in this collaborative hobby space.
✦ We do not have limitations of what types of character someone can bring into the space, and
applications are for record-keeping purposes moreso than being judged for quality. We generally trust that you understand the character you intend to play here and have no interest in grading essays. That said, we may reach out to discuss with you, whether that is about character suitability or otherwise, if concerns arise.
✧ ARRIVAL / INTRO ✧✦
Current Arrival Zone: The Voidsea.
✦ All new characters are fully human (or whatever their base species is, if preferred).
Notes on Non-Humanized Characters
Similar rules to the bestiary basics apply - minor aesthetic changes are generally not an issue, but anything that could be considered a mechanical advantage is. Non-human characters are still limited to the capabilities of a normal human, regardless of whatever abilities they may have had in canon.
Example: A Gem from Steven Universe may retain her embedded gemstone and unique color palette. However she would be in an otherwise humanlike biological body. No hard-light projection body, no interdimensional storage or weapon summoning from the gem, and so on.
If your character's base species is significantly different than a human (as in: a similar living biological body in both shape, size, and function), or you have any other concerns about nontraditional character traits, please check in with us first - you may be asked to make some changes to make them more playable. ✦ Returning characters may appear mostly human, may have markings or minor traits relating to their monster designs, or may retain their monstrous forms in their entirety.
✦ Any magic or supernatural powers or abilities from a previous canon, a non-human form, CRAU changes etc. are not present or active in any way. The
only powers currently available are baseline powers of
monsters.
✦ Your character arrives in whatever clothes they were wearing, and with whatever items were physically on their person, prior to arrival. This can include weapons.
However, please keep the following in mind:
✧ Ammo/fuel/etc. for
any kind of firearm or ranged weapon are limited and
will not be easily replaced.
✧ Highly technologically advanced weapons (laserguns, light sabers, etc.) are nonfunctional, whether fully broken or having severe malfunctions that may be dangerous to the user.
✧ Magical items (wands, spellbooks, charged gems or scrolls, etc.) are completely inert and nonfunctional.
✦ Characters who were
injured or dead prior to arrival for any reason may arrive fully healed, with scars, or retain injuries as desired. Characters who have any type of
illness or condition may arrive fully healed, may keep their symptoms intact, or may lessen or increase the severity of their symptoms as desired. Monstrous transformation may also offer your character changes in their conditions, positive or negative.
✦ You may either undo or retain any prior memory losses, whether they are from CRAU mechanics or canon, as you desire.
✧ SETTING MECHANICS ✧✦ Currently, there is
no day/night cycle or indeed any form of time passing. Characters find themselves operating in eternal night. The moon and stars provide enough light for seraphs to maintain their forms with some effort, but it may be harder or uncomfortable for others.
Note:
Mechanics that reference time limits are currently meant to give our players OOC vibe information on how to play things out, not literal in-universe due to the lack of time mechanic. ✦ Regardless of what language anyone is speaking, there is a form of
universal translation magic so all characters may naturally understand each other. Characters
can bypass this when intentionally emphasizing their native language, but this is limited; conscious control of the effect is difficult to fully grasp or maintain.
✦ Characters who
die will resurrect after a certain amount of time.
✧ In general it takes
at minimum 24 hours and
at maximum one month. ✧ Characters will resurrect either in their body (literally coming back to life), at the current respawn location, or in the voidsea.
✧ Characters experience various negative effects post-resurrection such as weakness, vertigo, and hunger for at minimum a few days.
✧ Players may choose to have injuries, scars, or a perfect resurrection as they desire.
✧ None of this needs to be consistent between each death; players may treat each instance uniquely.
✧ Characters who die
frequently, either in general or several times in a row, may have a setting penalty imposed on them at moderator discretion. This is not a punishment, just a setting spice and a way to keep deaths having some kind of impact.
✦
Canon updates are permitted. Your character will disappear for
24 hours and reappear in the current respawn location with their new knowledge. They may also age up if applicable, but this is not required.
✦ If you decide to put your character on
hiatus:✧ You may
handwave their actions during this period if you prefer.
✧ You may choose to have your character fall into a
deep sleep for the duration of your hiatus. During this hibernation, they will not experience any ill effects during nor after unless you want them to (in which case you may decide they wake up weak, disoriented, hungry, etc.)
✦ If you
drop a character:
✧ Your character will disappear from the world, including the clothes and items they had on their person. Other belongings in the world will remain.
✧ You may reapp dropped characters in the future.
